If you ignore the prehistory, I started ice skating on 24 September 2012 and ice hockey on 6 November 2013, inline (roller) skating the following day, and inline hockey on February 15 2014. The prehistory of my skating stretches back, through my first years at high school, to age 12 when I first went to watch a game of ice hockey (in Medicine Hat, Alberta, of all places).
I've played 10 games wearing Number 63 for the Knights in the South Australian Ice Hockey League's summer season (didn't make the playoffs, Left wing, no points, no penalties, +/- of -2). I am presently wearing Number 33 for the Wheelers in the North Vikings Inline Hockey Club competition (2 games, 2 wins, three more regular season games before finals, 1 goal, 1 points, +/- of +2).
While summer lasts I go inline skating in my neighborhood almost every day. I am presently ice skating once a week. For most of the past year I've been down the ice rink at least twice, often thrice, and occasionally up to five times per week. Besides the Adelaide Ice Arena, I've ice skated in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. I've never skated on outside ice.
I'm tied by blood to the Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League, and have a soft spot for the Winnipeg Jets and Vancouver Canucks. I also like the way the Montreal Canadiens play. In the Western Hockey League I kind of support the Red Deer Rebels. I've been to watch the Adelaide Adrenaline (both men and women). I have NHL13 for the Playstation (not very good at it). Only three or four of my thousands of books are to do with hockey or skating.
I have family and friends who support me through this crazy endeavour. My wife makes it all possible. I am half Canadian. I have left blood on the ice.
I skate therefore I am.
